Job Description:

  • Handle the Placement Broker function on high complexity accounts
  • Participate in the Internal Renewal Strategy Meeting
  • Participate in the Client Renewal Strategy Meeting, where necessary
  • Check quoting slips and policy wordings drafted by the Technician
  • Collate documents received from various sources into Broking Notes
  • Broke / negotiate terms with local insurers / wholesale brokers
  • Lead renewal meetings with the local insurers
  • Analyse, collate and make recommendations on terms / quotes / alternatives received for the Client Executive
  • Participate in the Client Renewal Meeting as required
  • Issue and obtain insurers signature to closing instructions / placing slips per agreed timeframes
  • Send binding instructions to and obtain signed slips from wholesale brokers as needed
  • Confirm cover to Claims Dept and Client Executive
  • Approve final policy wordings issued by the Technician
  • Develop relationships with insurers at a mid-management level
  • Play an advisory role to the Client in support of the Client Executive
  • Attend ad hoc Client meetings, when requested
  • Participate in Placement meetings
  • Assist with training when requested
  • Comply with Professional Standards
  • Comply with procedures relating to errors and omissions
  • Ensure compliance with acts / regulations relating to insurance
  • Leadership of a broking team
  • Provide support to the team on difficult renewals
  • Encourage continuous learning
  • Open sharing of market knowledge within the team to drive best results for clients
  • Engage with Team leaders in other areas to drive service delivery

  • Minimum 6 years insurance experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
  • FAIS compliant
  • NQF4 completed
  • Obtained or commenced with studies towards Higher Certificate in Insurance / IISA Introductory Programme in Short Term Insurance / IISA Programme in Short Term Insurance or NQF5
  • Management experience would be an advantage
  • Conversant with the coverage provided by all classes of insurance handled within Placement
  • A general knowledge of specialist classes of insurance e.g. contract works
  • An ability to broke high complexity accounts in the local insurance and International market
  • An ability to implement the placement strategy on high complexity accounts
  • An ability to identify suitable insurance markets for specific risks
  • A basic knowledge of risk financing techniques
  • A basic knowledge of the principals of risk management
  • A basic knowledge of the mechanics of reinsurance
  • Conversant with insurance legislation
