Museum General Manager

Job Description: 

  •  Building and leading a team of personnel who will facilitate visitor attractions across various departments (exhibitions, restaurant, maintenance).
  • Creating and facilitating a unique guest experience.
  • Upkeep of all museum installations, of which some could be technically complex.
  • Overseeing management of restaurant team.
  • Managing site maintenance, including gardens and grounds.
  • Defining long-term goals, developing business models, and implementing such plans.
  • Building on employee strengths and positioning teams accordingly.
  • Managing suppliers and building strong community relations.
  • Managing the museum’s operations and budget.
  • Managing the museum’s marketing, public relations, and community engagement.

Qualifications: 

  • A qualification in hospitality management or business management.
  • Relevant experience in hotel management, restaurant management or visitor attraction management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a team.
  • Experience of financial management.
  • A passionate disposition and the ability to maintain high standards under pressure.
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
  • Interest in South African history will be advantageous.
