Madrid hosted conference for accounting firms

The conference of the International Association of Practising Accountants (IAPA), a global association of independent accounting firms, was recently held in Madrid, Spain. Gerrit van Rhyn of Tenk Loubser & Associates’ Tyger Valley office attended the conference and reported that tax authorities around the world are increasing their efforts to collect taxes.

“This will result in more stringent tax laws and more investigations,” he said.

Both Exceed and Tenk Loubser & Associates are members of IAPA, a network of more than 230 independent accounting, tax and audit firms with members in more than 50 countries around the world. The network enables its members to assist their clients with most international tax and accounting needs.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are responsible for more than 80% of the world’s employment. Gerrit said he was delighted to hear from the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the international body responsible for developing standards for the accountancy profession, that more attention will be given to the SME market. A session particularly valuable for practitioners, the way they do business and spend their time was a workshop on time management and professionalism by international business consultant John Niland.
