Check list for individual taxpayers

Hanneke MostertE-filing for individual taxpayers for the year 1 March 2013 to 28 February 2014 will open on 1 July 2014. Whether you’re a provisional or non-provisional taxpayer, time to complete your income tax return is limited. To help you get started, we have compiled a list of the documents you may need.

The non-provisional tax season closes on 21 November 2014 and the provisional season closes on 31 January 2015.

The following list includes (but is not limited to) the documents you may need:

Income

  • IRP5 or IT3 (a)
  • Interest received: IT3(b)/bank or investment statements
  • Dividends received: IT3(c) or investment statements

Other income

  • Rental income: list of income and expenses
  • Business income: list of income and expenses
  • Farming income: list of income and expenses
  • Copy of the signed statements if any of the above is part of a partnership
  • Any other relevant income received

Capital gains

  • Documents of assets sold: purchase and sale documentation

Medical deduction

  • Contribution certificate
  • Document of own medical expenses paid
  • In the case of a disabled family member, complete the ITR-DD form of SARS

Deductions

  • Income protection certificate
  • Retirement annuity certificates
  • Donations: Section 18A receipts
  • Travel logbook
  • Details of assets used in production of income for wear and tear
  • Any other relevant deductions

List of assets and liabilities

General

  • Any donations made?
  • Are you a member of a provident fund?
  • Any changes made to your banking details?
  • Any changes made to your personal information?
