Exceed now offers learners career guidance

24 Jun 2014

Jana KrugerA new service – to assist high school learners with future subject and career choices – has been added to Exceed’s portfolio of services. It is aimed at helping learners from Grades 9-12 to choose, prepare for and enter an occupation for which they are best suited.

Career guidance offers young people the opportunity to talk through their ideas, both in general and in detail, before making potentially life-changing decisions. Learners participating in a career guidance session will benefit by increasing their awareness of further study opportunities and their understanding of career options.

Learners are assessed, whereafter the results of the individual tests are integrated and recommendations made regarding subject choice. The assessments may take place on an individual or group basis, and include self-assessment tools and counselling interviews.

Subject choice assessments consist of the following tests:

  • Aptitude test: This will help to pinpoint a learner’s strengths and will also indicate areas for development. It will help to determine which field of study will best suit a learner.
  • Personality test: This will help establish which future careers will fit well with a learner’s personality.
  • Interest questionnaire: The interest questionnaire is used to determine which future career a learner is most interested in and from which s/he will gain most satisfaction.
  • Values assessment: This helps to establish which values are most important to a learner.

“Without constant guidance and direction the opportunity is lost to understand one's woth, and the ability to learn and discover one's true abilities diminishes.” Rachel Wells
