Filing season: 2023

The filing season for individuals in South Africa opens on 7 July 2023 at 08:00 PM.

This year auto assessments were issued by SARS between 1 July and 7 July. Auto assessments are based on third party data collected by SARS. The taxpayer is notified via email or SMS about this auto assessment and if the taxpayer agrees with SARS, no further action is needed on the taxpayer’s behalf. If the taxpayer was not auto assessed by SARS and is a non-provisional taxpayer, the tax return must be filed by 23 October 2023.

If the taxpayer qualifies as a provisional taxpayer their tax return are to be submitted by 24 January 2024.
