Job Description: 

  • Able to support the Financial Manager in various tasks and duties.
  • Accounting & Bookkeeping:
    • Full accounting function, including processing financial transactions, maintaining general ledger entries, and reconciling accounts.
    • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping tasks such as invoicing, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
    • Liase with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records, including transactions initiated by business units/branches and appointed agents
  • Tax and VAT compliance
    • Support the Financial Manager to ensure adherence to tax compliance regulations, including maintaining the organisation’s tax-exempt status
    • Assist the Financial Manager with VAT reconciliations, liasing with external stakeholders to ensure all agent transactions (iro events) are correctly and timeously accounted for
    • Assist the Financial Manager in educating and guiding internal and external stakeholders on specific accounting requirements to maintain compliance
  • Grant Funding Management:
    • Assist with the grant funding process, including contract preparation, expense tracking and related documentation.
    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including funders and auditors, to provide financial records and support for grant audits.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Support the Financial Manager in liasing with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, event organisers and the treasurers of various branches and business units
    • Foster clear communication and build trust by explaining financial processes and compliance requirements
  • Fiduciary Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to all relevant fiduciary, tax and financial compliance regulations related to the organisation.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support compliance audits and fiduciary responsibilities
    • Stay up to date with relevant changes in legislation or regulations that may impact fiduciary responsibilities or financial operations.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    • Assist the Financial Manager in preparing consolidated management reports for the organisation (incorporating various business units, branches and restricted funds)
    • Support the Financial Manager in the preparation of financial presentations as required
    • Support the Financial Manager in respect of budgeting, financial forecasting and variance analysis
    • Process Improvement:
      • Continuously assess and improve accounting and financial processes for efficiency and accuracy.
      • Work closely with the team to streamline workflows and minimise risk
    • Team Support & Collaboration:
      • Act as a key team player in supporting the Financial Manager and other departments with needs or ad hoc projects.
      • Assist with cross-departmental financial communication and problem-solving, offering expertise where needed.
      • Identify gaps within the team or financial processes and take initiative to bridge those gaps.
    • General Support:
      • Provide additional administrative and financial support across departments as needed, helping to ensure the smooth operation of the finance function.
      • Support the Financial Manager with ad hoc projects, audits and board meeting preparations

Qualifications: 

  • Strong expertise in accounting – Bachelor’s degree in Accounting as minimum
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years experience in accounting
  • Strong knowledge of tax compliance, particularly VAT
  • Experience working with agent/principal accounting relationships will be highly advantageous
  • Experience in fiduciary compliance related to Grant Funding will be advantageous
  • Proficiency in accounting software (SAGE) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Organised and process-driven with a keen eye for detail
  • Willing to assist with other financial and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Ability to build relationships and effectively communicate complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders with limited financial knowledge
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as a self-starter
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving
