Trade Accountant

Job Description: 

  • Financial Control:
    • Recordkeeping and reconciliation of all trade-related transactions
    • Monitoring cost of sales (COGS), including farmer payments, packaging, and logistics costs
    • Managing inventory movement and valuation
    • Preparing profit and loss statements by shipment, client, and product
  • Procurement & Farmer Payments:
    • Processing farmer contracts and invoices
    • Monitoring delivery volumes, quality, and price adjustments
    • Ensuring timely and accurate payments to suppliers
  • Export & Logistics Accounting:
    • Recordkeeping of export sales, foreign exchange variances, and shipping costs
    • Reconciling farmer contracts with foreign exchange contracts (FECs)
    • Reconciling export documentation with financial records
    • Collaborating with logistics and operations teams for accurate financial processing
  • Reporting & Analysis:
    • Preparing monthly margin reports and variance analyses
    • Supporting budget and forecast processes
    • Preparing for audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Systems & Process Improvement:
    • Maintaining and optimising ERP systems
    • Developing and documenting internal controls and procedures

Qualifications: 

  • BCom in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in finance/accounting, preferably in agriculture or exports
  • Strong knowledge of cost and inventory accounting, as well as foreign currency transactions
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of export regulations is advantageous
