E-Commerce Systems Engineer

Job Description:

  • System Design & Maintenance: Design, implement and maintain operational systems and tools. Oversee the overall health, functionality and continuous improvement of all digital operational systems.
  • Process Engineering: Apply industrial engineering principles to streamline workflows, minimise waste and optimise throughput across processes.
  • System / Platform Requirements: Serve as a link between operational needs and technical teams (both internal and external). Draft clear and structured Business Requirement Documents (BRDs) and translate business needs into technical specifications for developers.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives through root cause analysis, digital tool development and comprehensive process documentation.
  • Data-Driven Optimisation: Identify and analyse system bottlenecks, define and track key performance indicators (KPIs), and drive performance enhancements. Capable of processing raw data and developing automated dashboards to support decision-making.
  • Operational Collaboration: Partner with warehousing, logistics and customer service teams to deliver projects that enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
  • Engineering Projects: Plan, schedule, coordinate and monitor assigned engineering projects from initiation through to completion.
  • Business Process Mapping: Create detailed process maps to document and analyse business workflows.
  • Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs): Understand and develop data structures through the creation and interpretation of ERDs.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field
  • Over three years’ experience in systems engineering, e-commerce operations, or process improvement
  • Ability to write basic SQL queries
  • Practical experience using diagramming tools (e.g. Microsoft Visio, Draw.io) to document and present processes
  • Proficiency in Power Platform, SQL, Power BI and simulation software (advantageous)
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies
  • Familiarity with ERP or WMS platforms (advantageous)
  • Excellent project management, organisational, time management and decision-making skills
  • Fluency in Afrikaans and English
  • Strong execution skills and attention to detail
  • A passion for operations, digital commerce and emerging retail technology trends
