Production Manager

Job Description: 

  • Weekly reporting to National Fresh Produce Manager in Cape Town.
  • Executing efficient and accurate ordering and expediting orders.
  • Expediting stock requests and communicating requests with depot personnel for minimum stock levels.
  • Participating in stock takes and monitoring stock levels of fresh produce and packaging at Depo
  • Oversee the financial system e.g., Sage. Ensure accurate financial execution of procurement, assemblies and Sales orders. This also includes monthly stock take with count variance targets.
  • Prioritising tasks and managing time correctly to complete daily tasks timeously.
  • Addressing and investigating customer complaints.
  • Adhering to all internal control policies of the Company as well as adhering to all legislation pertaining to the enforcement of hygienic practices.
  • Upholding and working according to all internal and external safety guidelines.
  • Sourcing of new suppliers (farmers, growers or materials) and setting up grower contracts
  • Liaising with Cape Town for merging of optimal stock procurement.
  • Managing the production team according to companies’ standards through ensuring productivity and desirable work ethics.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation and implement innovative techniques to enhance productivity and yield.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with suppliers and stay updated on industry news, new products, and emerging trends.
  • Quality management – documentation, NCR etc as well as waste management with set targets

Qualifications: 

  • Tertiary qualification in logistics, procurement, fresh produce operations and/or supply chain, BSc agriculture or food science will be beneficial.
  • Minimum 5 years hands on experience in a logistics, distribution, production or warehousing environment within the agricultural fresh produce industry will be required.
  • Must have experience in HACCP and non-conformance handling experience and a proven track record for excellent customer service.
  • Proven record of team management – minimum 10 staff will be beneficial
  • General knowledge of the agricultural fresh produce industry and a knowledge of the fresh products that are supplied.
  • Computer knowledge of MS office (excel/word/outlook) with a working knowledge of Sage.
  • Good communication and writing skills in English and Afrikaans, with the ability to interface with people of all levels
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of product packaging (quality and ordering).
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Deadline and target driven.
