PAIA manuals to be submitted by end of 2011
The Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) requires all public and private companies to make specific information about the company, close corporation, private or public entity available on request.
This information should be made available to any person or persons who ask for it, but is subject to the relevant guidelines stated in the Act. PAIA sets out how and which information the public may request from an entity, as well as the way in which information must be presented in order to comply with the Act.
Deadline
Section 51 of PAIA specifically sets out the format of the manuals to be submitted to the South African Human Rights Commission before 31 December 2011.
Failure to comply with the provisions and regulations of the Act may lead to a fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years.
