Group Accountant

Job Description:

  • Group Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and consolidate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the group.
    • Ensure compliance with IFRS, SARS regulations, and industry-specific financial reporting standards.
    • Prepare management reports, variance analyses, and board packs for executive decision-making.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Coordinate annual budgeting processes across all entities in the group.
    • Assist in forecasting cash flows, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
    • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide insightful commentary.
  • Cost & Inventory Accounting:
    • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost tracking across farming, packing, and export.
    • Analyze cost of sales and margins per product line, customer, and export region.
  • Audit & Compliance:
    • Liaise with external auditors during annual audits and ensure timely delivery of audit requirements.
    • Maintain strong internal controls and improve processes to minimize risk and enhance efficiency.
  • Taxation & Regulatory:
    • Oversee VAT, income tax, and export rebate compliance for group entities.
    • Ensure all statutory submissions and payments are made accurately and on time.
  • Team Management & Development:
    • Supervise junior finance staff and bookkeepers across different business units.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and ongoing training within the finance team.

Qualifications:

  • BCom in Accounting / Financial Management
  • SAIPA / SAICA / CIMA membership (preferred)
  • Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a group or consolidation role
  • Previous experience in the agriculture, FMCG, or export sectors highly advantageous
  • Solid understanding of consolidated reporting, intercompany transactions, and transfer pricing
  • Proficient in ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Sage Evolution, Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling)
  • Experience with CaseWare, Xero, Pastel, or similar
  • Knowledge of Power BI or other data visualization tools (advantageous)
