Assistant Depot Manager

Job Description:

  • Assist the Depot Manager with the day-to-day operational management of the depot.
  • Support the efficient running of depot operations to ensure productivity and service delivery.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe working environment and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Assist with ground preparation, silo bag layout, and measurement activities.
  • Support grain storage and handling operations, particularly relating to wheat.
  • Monitor operational processes to ensure efficiency and minimise downtime.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance planning and implementation.
  • Supervise and coordinate staff activities within the depot.
  • Support stock control, administration, and operational record-keeping.
  • Assist with identifying and managing operational risks within the agricultural environment.
  • Contribute to planning and problem-solving to ensure smooth depot operations.
  • Support the management of On-Farm Depots (OFDs) where applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture.
  • Certification in Fumigation.
  • Certification in Wheat Grading.
  • Health and Safety accreditation.
  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Silo Bag Assistant Depot Manager or in a similar grain storage/depot operations role.
  • Strong operational and agricultural background.
  • Experience within grain handling, storage, or wheat-related operations.
  • Strong staff supervision and people management skills.
  • Good administrative and record-keeping abilities.
  • Preventative maintenance mindset with experience in operational efficiency.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Understanding of operational and safety risks within the agricultural sector, particularly wheat production and storage.
  • Experience with On-Farm Depots (OFDs) would be advantageous.
