HR & Payroll Generalist

Job Description:

  • Manage fortnightly and monthly payroll, including overtime, tips, commissions, leave, deductions, appointments, promotions, and terminations.
  • Ensure accurate payroll processing, reconciliations, reporting, and statutory submissions including SARS, UIF, and COIDA.
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment and onboarding process.
  • Provide HR support to managers on employee relations, disciplinary procedures, performance management, and probation.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, payroll information, ESS, and pension fund administration.
  • Coordinate performance management, training, employee development, wellness, and engagement initiatives.
  • Prepare HR and payroll reports and assist with audits, statutory requirements, and HR projects.
  • Act as a professional point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR and payroll matters.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Payroll qualification and/or experience.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a generalist HR role with payroll responsibility.
  • Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation, BCEA, PAYE, UIF, and COIDA.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with SAGE 300/Pastel Evolution and ESS advantageous.
  • Hospitality or service industry experience advantageous.
  • SDF certification advantageous.
  • Strong numerical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
  • High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Able to work under pressure, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently.
